Brockport Home Systems Ltd. Is one of Canada’s first construction companies dedicated to advancing the design, manufacture, delivery and construction process of floor, wall, and roof components for the home building industry.

 

We are seeking a Sr. Project Manager, Manufacturing to join our team.

 

The Manufacturing Project Manager (MPM) for our Automated, Off-Site manufacturing Factory will oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of production processes for panelized and modular homes utilizing cutting-edge automation, robotics, and innovative manufacturing technologies. This role will also include a strong focus on product development, ensuring that new home designs are manufacturable at scale and meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and sustainability. The MPM will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive both the manufacturing and product development lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration of innovation into production processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management:
    • Lead and manage projects focused on improving and scaling automated and robotic manufacturing systems for modular and panelized homes.
    • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project execution.
    • Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement corrective actions when necessary to meet milestones and deadlines.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, production, procurement, construction, and design teams to align project goals.
  2. Automation and Robotics Integration:
    • Oversee the implementation of automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 technologies in the factory to streamline production processes.
    • Lead the integration of robotic systems into the production line to enhance efficiency, reduce manual labor, and improve product quality.
    • Evaluate, select, and procure robotic systems and automation equipment, and work with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration.
    • Stay ahead of industry trends to identify new automation opportunities and continuously optimize production capabilities.
  3. Product Development & Design for Manufacturability:
    • Work with the product development team to ensure that new modular home designs are optimized for automated production and scalability.
    • Act as a liaison between design engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure that product designs can be efficiently produced using available robotic and automated systems.
    • Lead the development and refinement of prototypes, providing feedback on manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and production feasibility.
    • Ensure product designs align with company goals for sustainability, energy efficiency, and innovation in modular construction.
    • Manage the transition from product concept to production, overseeing the validation of new designs within the factory's automated systems.
    • Ensure that products meet all regulatory and quality standards for modular homes, including safety, structural integrity, and environmental considerations.
  4. Production Efficiency and Quality Control:
    • Analyze production processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.
    • Develop and implement strategies to reduce waste, improve product consistency, and optimize factory throughput.
    • Work with quality assurance teams to establish and enforce stringent quality control standards, ensuring that both design and production processes meet customer expectations and regulatory compliance.
    • Implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process optimization methodologies.
  5. Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and operators in an automated manufacturing environment.
    • Develop training programs for team members to ensure they are proficient in new automation, robotics, and product development processes.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration within the production and product development teams.
  6. Collaboration & Communication:
    • Serve as the main point of contact for project stakeholders, including senior management, engineering, procurement, production, and design teams.
    • Provide regular updates to leadership on project status, risks, timelines, and outcomes.
    • Communicate with external suppliers and partners for the procurement of equipment, tools, and materials related to automation, robotics, and product development.
  7. Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure all automation, robotics, and product development processes comply with safety standards and industry regulations.
    • Promote a safety-first culture across both the manufacturing and product development teams, ensuring that new designs consider worker safety and ease of integration into automated systems.
    • Stay current with industry regulations and standards (e.g., OHSA, ISO, etc.) that apply to modular home construction and automation technologies.
  8. Budget and Cost Management:
    • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources throughout the product development and manufacturing processes.
    • Monitor and control costs associated with automation systems, product development, and scaling production, identifying opportunities for savings and efficiency gains.
  9. Sustainability and Innovation:
    • Lead the charge in incorporating sustainable practices into both product design and manufacturing processes, including the use of eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies.
    • Evaluate and implement new technologies, materials, and processes to improve production efficiency and sustainability across all stages of modular home development.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing project management with a focus on automation, robotics, and product development, ideally in modular construction or prefabricated housing.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale product development and manufacturing projects from concept through production.
  • Strong knowledge of modular home design, construction processes, and how to optimize designs for automated manufacturing.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Extensive experience in automation and robotics technologies used in manufacturing, such as robotic arms, CNC machines, and automated assembly lines.
  • Proficiency in product development processes, including prototyping, design for manufacturability, and scaling production.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Proficiency in CAD, CAM, ERP, and other relevant manufacturing software tools.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, lean principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong analytical mindset.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations relevant to manufacturing, machine safety, controls and guarding.
  • Familiar Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tool (e.g. Process simulation)
  • Familiar with pre-start health and safety reviews (PSHSR).

Certifications (Preferred):

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
  • Experience with ERP systems and data analysis tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Robotics or Automation-related certifications.
  • Product Design or Development certifications.

 

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Full-time position based in a manufacturing environment with occasional travel to supplier sites or other facilities.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends as needed to meet production deadlines and project timelines.
  • Work may require standing, walking, and exposure to machinery, noise, and other industrial conditions.
